I was just thinking that maybe we should all, like I have managed to, turn away from the 1nd hand 'next generation' market and head for the auction sites, the free ads and places like the Special Reserve UKclassified.com and cheque out what's going on in the 2nd hand market!
You will be in for a surprise - here's what I've noticed!
If you wanted a PS2 on launch day then unless you ordered one - that rather confusing pre-order fiasco, then you would have had to pay in excess of £550 for it (even though people bought them for £300! - oh the joys of demand and supply...)
So, if you were one the unlucky ones and got your PS2 for as much as £1200 (some people were clever to sell!) then I doubt you've had much cause to celebrate so far - a) your console hasn't got any games that are worthy of public recognition, b) your PS2 will now fetch around £250 if you're lucky, c) Metal Gear Solid won't be out for a year at the least. But hey if you want Midnight Club Street Racing then go get it now!
Dreamcast owners have had a rollercoaster few months just recently, what with around 20 triple A titles hitting the shelves, and the DC making the XMas Number one position (in the UK at least), and then with all those online games like Quake 3 and the fabulous but ultimately weak Toy Racer, only to here about even more amazing news - the broadband modem and 2001's launch line up and...
Now that the Dreamcast production will stop in March, many of us have put our DC's up for auction - not me (although I did have a mad half hour...), as I actually got another one! Ou may have heard the re-assuring news that Sega will be in a very competitive position with them Setting the Pace and all that! Dreamcast is available for £150 with around 3 games at the moment, but at auction the console will fetch around £120 with a game.
N64 hasn't really had many games released for it, but the likes of No Mercy, Zelda 2 and...that's about it basically, but Nintendo are in a very strong position although what has surprised me is that Sega's ill fated Saturn is selling for more than Nintendo's 64!! Very strange, but people certainly know where Nights is!!!
PSX are selling at around £55, although I managed to sell one with 4 games for £92.00...PSone is still £80 with retailers adament that they cannot cut the price (surely it only cost around £20 to make - its so tiny!)
And well, let's get ready for Game Boy Advance - I'd prefer to call it GBA - Game Boy is such a silly name!
Have fun, get surfing and await Daytona USA with delight!
It's easy to get a list of games I want and get them put back for me (if I can afford them, hence not buying anything big recently) My N64 was second hand, £30 with 2 controllers and looked brand new. My Gameboy color was second hand as well. It saves a lot of money, and a few cotton buds later, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Anyway, got to go now. I've just finished work and my wife won't like it if I come home and go on the PC while she's trying to sleep! See you tomorrow!
