It’s all over the current economic climate, or more precisely the government’s handling of it and the lack of jobs or support while the bosses of big French companies get huge bonuses.
While strikes to show concern over their livelihood is certainly a good way to get Government attention, the riots are worrying and it’s long been considered that one of the outcomes of mass redundancy, lack of money and rising costs could well be civil unrest across the western world, leading to a Police State as we’ve seen in so many futuristic films.
Do you think it could happen here? Well we’ve had strikes before, of course, back in the 70’s and 80’s, but the UK of today is not really a striking country. But as the situation worsens and people find themselves with no money for food or housing, how long can the society hold together without panic setting in?
What can the government do to ease fears of this amid the growing issues of redundancy and financial issues? Is this something that all of Europe or all the World needs to work on in addition to trying to stabilise the economy? I, for one, think it is.
And, yes, the French do it a lot but not on this scale. While the country didn't quite come to a standstill, it was almost there. The riots, though, are the most frightning thing about it all.
But i do remember the lorry drivers striking and bringing the entire nation to a halt over fuel charge. A tense one week eh?
