This has now happened to me (through different friends) 3 times with different discs and it's all because the discs are formatted in a certain way.
It's like getting a TV and finding it doesn't work on all channels (okay, so channel 5 has problems, but you know what I mean) or getting a hoover that only picks up certain kinds of dirt. I know it's not the fault of the DVD machine manufacturers, but it is really annoying and embarrassing if you are trying to impress someone with your new equipment and suddenly everything goes pearshaped.
