It was Fernando Alonso that took pole position, in front of his home crowd, to deny Villeneuve his second consecutive pole position in Spain. This race will be Alonso's fifth race in the SR Championship and he marks it with his first pole position of his career.
As for the rest of the pack, the drivers near the back will feel pretty unlucky that they weren't further up. The times were so close that the top 10 were split by just a tenth of a second and the whole field were split by just over 2 tenths.
Alonso will be looking for a solid points finish from pole and Villeneuve is in a prime position to win the Spanish Grand Prix for the second year in a row from second on the grid. Jordan's fortunes are looking slightly better with 3rd for Fisichella. Wilson continues his impressive qualifying performances with 4th. Trulli and De La Rosa posted the same times but Trulli got his in first so he takes 5th while De La Rosa settles for 6th. Montoya and Button are dangerous from 7th and 8th respectively.

With times this close, anyone can win this race. The question is, who are the winners and losers going to be after the dust settles on this race?
Nah, its just stupid Frentzen is crap.
