Or... single player games will become so much more fun than real life that everyone will play them and no-one will live in real life, so no-one will make any new games or repair boilers, so all the electrical appliances will become badly insulated, and one day there will be a power surge, which will *destroy* all the computers, and we will have to live in bboring reality again.
Either way gaming is doomed.
'Not everyone likes to 'play' games. There will always be people dedicated to improving mankind's lot, this includes doctors, builders, factory workers, inventors, actors, entertainers'
Just as well, imagine a doctor in the operating theatre trying to stop the bleeding on a patient's arteries at a crucial moment, then looking at the blood and saying 'Hey, nurse, this reminds me of the bit I'm stuck on in resident evil 3, now how do I get passed that....ooops, mop please nurse."
Yeah, there are lots of people who don't play games and they will never become so popular as to be a way of life. Just as they become the new TV, people start losing interest and they just go back to being for us gamers.
I don't think gaming is quite doomed yet, we have sen many games from the Doom series but I don't think that in the sense we are talking about Doomed has anything to do with gaming at the mo....except for the rumors about the Sega DC.
I think that because 'Comnputer are the future' we will see a lot more competition with regards to videogames and what have you, I think they are still on the increase in terms of popularity etc.
The Game

Not in all cases. You could say that following a football team is escapism, or white water rafting, or taking a holiday; gaming is just another outlet for people to have fun with, to challenge their abilities, and in the case of some games, to educate themselves.
If this keeps happening, 1 of 2 things will

This line of reasoning does not necessarily follow from the previous statement. Life is amazingly fun anyway, isn't it?

Not everyone likes to 'play' games. There will always be people dedicated to improving mankind's lot, this includes doctors, builders, factory workers, inventors, actors, entertainers....a lot of whom have and probably never will play a console game, because reality appeals more to them.
So it ain't all bad.
Either way gaming

Gaming will never be doomed as long as mankind retains his competitive spirit. Gaming includes all sports, not just console games. Console games will never be doomed, it will evolve, but it will never be doomed.
