I have wasted many hours screwing round with my OS because I needed Oracle on my computer for uni work. Eventually got XP and it found my modem and loaded 9i perfectly. Then the school told me I had a conflict in software as they were still running Oracle 8i. which is why I ended up running 2 Operating systems. They now have the licence for 9i so I can load XP back on my computer. With all the screwing around I've done I do not have many files on my system.
My question is this.....
Do I have to reload my factory settings to upgrade the whole computer system or can I just upgrade the computer as it stands e.g. will the upgrade just wipe both the old Operating Systems out.
If you are backing up to a drive I would suggest you reformat the drive you are going to install XP on to.
In theory you should be able to choose which OS you wish to install XP over, but the best idea would be a clean install. There are many issues with installing over previous OS's and retaining settings.
My ideal choice:
Backup, reformat, install.
