FOR SALE

Pinnacle Aeos carbon road bike. Medium size. Excellent condition.

I bought this bike with the intention of using it just for racing but have actually barely used it, I have just done a few triathlons and duathlons but have mostly ridden my training bike. I bought the bike 8 months ago and the speedo says less than 700 miles however I replaced the frame and forks a few months ago so they have probably done less than a hundred miles and the wheels, saddle and seatpost have done even less! It is pretty much immaculate, the only signs of wear are on top of sti levers from being stood upside down and on the cranks which are slightly scuffed due to wearing silly inward tightening triathlon shoes!

This is a very light bike, 17.5lb/8kg and it has potential, with a few choice upgrades to be a super light bike. The frameset was the same as used by the ploughman craven professional race team! Size is medium which is recommended for 5’6” to 5’10”.

I would say the new value of this bike would be about £1600

It is made up of the frame, fork and headset from this bike

Not in the most obvious sense, maybe - but I still class it as a sequel. Anyone else?

Oh dear - did I catch a nerve, Mr Attitude? :-)

Sorry, I meant Namco for Pac Man - as NZP said, it was late!

Same here!

I also agree with you about the TR games. I loved the first when it arrived, and couldn't wait for the 2nd installment. But as I've said several times on these forums, even though I still enjoy the TR games, I do believe that the series needs a major overhaul. Though quite how they could change it, I wouldn't like to say.

I don't think that Nintendo made Pac-Man, but I could be wrong. I remember:

Pac-Man
Ms Pac-Man
Pac-Man Junior
Pac-Land
Pac-Mania
Pac-Man Adventures in Time

There may be more....

All of these games, excluding Pac-Land involve collecting dots and avoiding ghosts. Oh, and collecting big dots and chasing ghosts. And some fruit thrown in for some good measure!

Not many people get too excited about the thought of a new Pac-Man game, because nothing new has been added to the game, so the original is seen as the classic (though maybe Ms Pac-Man was better), and the others are just the same product with prettier graphics.

I think that this is where the problem lies.

It is seen to those that haven't played the games that the Playstation sequels are merely the same thing, but better looking. Why this is thought to be worse for the Playstation than on other platforms I'm not sure!

It might have something to do with the amount of time between the sequels.

It seems to me that Tomb Raider has reached 5 installments rather swiftly. There are probably a number of reasons for this. The Playstation has helped the games industry really take-off, and make it comparible to the movie industry. In films the sequels tend to follow the original after not too long, and maybe the same theory was applied to gaming?

Also the PSX was an incredibly simple platform to program for, so develment time would have been much shorter for a Tomb Raider sequel than it would have been for a sequel to a game on the N64.

He keeps his fur trimmed nice and short! :-)

It's not worth getting wound up about.

There have been sequels for as long as there have been games, and no particular company is to blame. How many Pac Man's did Nintendo turn out? How many early N64 games were sequels were updates of SNES games with '64' tagged on the end? How many arcade racers have Sega turned out? How many Sonic's? Sure, the formats have changed slightly, but they're essentially the same game, only better.

The situation will most likely get worse before it gets better, because a lot of ideas have been used up, and that makes it harder to be original. There only so much you can do with any genre - driving is driving, platformers are platformers, FPS games are all very much alike. You can add little bits here and there, but they're still basically the same.

Hell, we all know that one of Sniper's favourite games - Unreal Tournament - is a sequel! ;-p

It's late so, here goes...

Who cares if there are only sequels on the PS2 at the moment eh? Aren't there sequels on other formats too? Sonic Adventure 2, Mario 64, Quake 3 Arena, Tekken Tag Tournament - I think you'll find these are sequels and are spread across various formats.

So, my question is this - why paint the PS2 with a different brush to that of the Dreamcast, GameCube, GameBoy Advance, PC etc?
