So, no more Dreamcast after March.
Perhaps now the idiotic "Dreamcast is best...no, PS2 is best" threads can stop?

We all know the X-Box will blow, Microsoft already talking about extra costs for DVD playing etc etc.

So, Dreamcast owners, get a PS2 and try to not be bitter.
It happened with the Saturn, it happened with the Dreamcast.
Sega have no interest in Europe, despite you lining their coffers with your ££££.

Sony may have annoyed people with the pre-order/shortage situation, but they continue to make sure their customers feel valued (backwards compatibility etc).

Wave farewell to the Dreamcast ladies and gentlemen, it was nice while it lasted and a couple of games were good.
Let's all get down to the real issue at hand:

Look at the scematics. PS2 is TEN times faster than the Dreamcast. And you can REALLY see the difference.

No console will survive if *only* it's manufacturer produces software for it, no matter how good or bad that software is.

Regardless of what people think of Sony, Sega and Nintendo's own software, there are plenty of other software developers out there, producing for all platforms - and they certainly don't all produce crap.

Consequently, the quality - or lack of, depending on your point of view - in Sony's own software is largely irrelevant, and PlayStation cannot be accused of making games 'shallow'. The machine can only run the software produced for it, so any fault lies with the developers in general.

Anyway, if Sega are as good as you say (and I'm not saying for one moment that they aren't), then the fact that they are considering producing software for PS2 should overcome any perceived weakness in PS2's software line-up. Or are you suggesting that Sega will suddenly begin to produce crap games on PS2?

I can see gamers all over the world will start saying how terrible it is for this to happen to Sega. Well to them i would like to say it's all our faults, no point in crying about it. If people hadn't been so gullible and listened to everything Sony fed them about the brilliance of the PS2 and, instead, gone out and bought a DC then Sega would be busy planning a DC2 and various new Virtua games. Sony wouldn't be ready to milk the gaming world for billions of dollars and Nintendo fans would be able to watch quietly and await the arrival of Nintendo's Gamecube without fear of history repeating itself. You see this will have a knock on effect. Sony, without having any major competition now Sega is out of the picture, will sell lots of PS2s with impatient gamers unable to wait till 2002 for XBox or Gamecube. This means when these consoles do appear there will be such a huge fanbase for the PS2 history will repeat itself with the GC having to settle for second place and the XBox just waiting to steal in and put an end to Nintendo's efforts like the DC did before. Then PS3 will ceom and the viscious circle will repeat itself with Sony becoming ever richer and games becoming ever more hollow.
As a DC owner i hate to say this but really there is no option now but to buy a PS2 and it's no ones fault but our own.

Actually, the dreamcast is far from dead. Sega is stopping the production of Dreamcasts in March, but they will produce enuff 2 go well into 2002 and the chip is goin to be inserted into set top boxes, DVD players, and negotiations are underway for the xbox 2 b compatible aswell....
Along with another 100 ground breaking titles thi year, and currently more dreamcasts in the uk than ps2s it aint as bad as u think. Ive just completed Shenmue, I await 2 see anything near as good as it on the ps2 this year. And since MGS2 has been delayed, there aint much chance of that happenein, is there??
and wat u mean the xbox is `only` 3 times as powerful as the PS2??? Thats a damn lot and if u compare that to the difference between the PS2 and the Dreamcast, the PS2 is `only` twice as powerful...

The X-Box is only 3 times faster than the PS2, and the footage show on it was really, really cwap despite how proud Unkle Bill looked.

And yes, you need to buy an extra little gadget to play movies.

I hardly think making a financial loss 4 years running could be considered as, "lining their pockets". Unless of course you mean lining their pockets in the "fluffy sweet and used bus ticket" kind of way.
