Mostly actors, but a few sports people and other inconsiquential hangers-on, who's egos have outgrown their bodies and live on another level to the rest of us. People who copy emotions for a living, or who run for longer and can kick a ball or two. People above their stations. I hate them. There's nothing worse than someone who thinks they're a celebrity, but when asked what they've done to improve the state of the world, all they can do is smile. Britain is already a celebrit-obsessed country as it is, but when someone with an A-list status over here tries to make it in America, nothing happens.
Maybe it says something about the state of the fame system over there, as their stars do have a certain unique quality that singles them out. As soon as someone over there makes the slightest venture into a serious film career, they're suddenly elevated in the eyes of the British press, but they're still "small fries" in the states. It's a lesson that British celebs should learn before their egos take over and devour them whole. It's just a more concentrated version of the hype machine. Some people it works for, as their destined to be famous, but some people like David Beckham should stop whinging because they didn't get offered a part in The Simpsons.
:-D
I don't actually mind David Beckham as a person, or as a football player, it's just the Media, and how they emphasise how much of a God he is.
I mean, I'm sure there were more important things happening in the world during the times of which he and his wife were splattered on front pages with something as trivial as, "Posh breaks a nail", or "Becks runs out of nail-polish".
Grrr.
Just thought I'd mention the word that leaves you Man Utd supporters trembling.
> Also, when Becks DOES score they're great goals.
Indeed. That little 'off the shoulder' number for Arsenal in the FA Cup was one of his best ever. :-)

Heh, Arsenal mate, Arsenal.
:-D
> I partly agree.
> I despise David Beckham.
> He's hardly even a good footballer, he can take free kicks, so what.
That made me laugh. Of course he's good, just because he doesn't score many goals doesn't make him a bad player. I wonder how many assists he has picked up for United.
> Yet for some reason, he's seen as one of Britains best celebrities?
I think its more the whole lifestyle thing, he's married to a famous woman who craves media attention so he is always in the papers too. He's obviously a good looking guy, does lots of promotion work for brands, drives nice cars, so I think it's that the public wish they had his lifestyle and that’s why he is regarded so highly. (Although he isn't seen as enough of a celeb for the Simpsons 300th special apparently).
They're quality British comedians and you can tell that they're not trying to be anything other than that.
