"I'm going out"

"You know, if I had the receipt I'd take you back to the shop!"

Another Saturday. Another argument. I look out through the window- at the serenity. How tranquil and beautiful the surroundings are. The sea almost has a mystical feeling to it. The raves ripple on the beach, the influxes gently lapping over crustaceans littering the sand. How can one window separate two different worlds? The glass is transparent, yet it is the greatest wall of all. For inside this house, a war wages on. My wife, soon to be ex, enjoys arguing. Myself, I tend to prefer mature settlements, coming to mutual understandings.

Maybe I don't belong here.

I feel attached to the sea. It's calling me. The tether between us grows stronger everyday. I can feel a presence there, a magical, mystifying creature calling me.

Today is the day I discover what it is.

I slip on my sandals, tie the lead on Sandy, and we stroll down to the shore. My boat, The Maiden, sways back and forth as the waves swash into it. Sandy jumps in first, finds her bed and chews on a half-bitten bone. I secure the Life jackets on the both of us, and push off. I finally feel free. I look back at our Lighthouse home; I can almost feel the pressure draining away. No more arguments, no need for chill-out tapes by Dr. Bowford, I'm finally free.

I slowly row. The oars create ebbs in the water. I look out over the cove- the sunrise creating a reflection on the rippling surface. This is where I belong.

A solitary dolphin streaks through the water beside the boat- its dorsal fin slices through the surface. It reminds me of the atmosphere back home- you could cut it with a knife. But it, too, sinks down to the depths below- never to be seen again.

The float bobs up and down on the surface of the sea. Two fish splash water over the sides of a yellow bucket, sending Sandy wild. The float disappears. It's big, really big. I pull on the rod hard, inch by inch the fish is pulled towards the boat. A green tail rises from the surface, decorated with topaz and emeralds. A face appears from the water- so beautiful I doubt she's not a siren. She whispers something, "Follow me".

Grabbing the two SCUBA kits, a mask is placed over Sandy, and one snugly over my face. We dive in to the water- instantly transported to another world. Fish dance between the coral, conga eels swish through the endless blue water. We dive down further- the bubbles from our masks disturb the shoal of fish above us.

Then she appears again.

Her slim finger points to a cave at the bottom of the outcrop of coral. My torch sends a brilliance of light into the murky passage. Following her, we swim through the hole.

A light appears ahead. She waves- and then disappears again. We move to the surface, I take off my mask. I'm nearly blinded by the sheer beauty. Countless jewels, encrusted in solid Gold crowns and necklaces lay before us, spilling over the side of a ruby-red chest. She wanted me to find this treasure, but why? Then I spot it. A rod lay behind the chest. Grabbing it, I replace my mask and we head back for the boat.

Pushing Sandy up, I quickly follow. I study the rod closely, while placing our SCUBA equipment back in the cupboard. An overwhelming feeling shudders through my body. I don't know why, but I felt intent on making a wish.

"I want to see her again. Her beauty alone dwarfs the most precious Gem in the world"

A brilliant light emanates from the rod. A woman appears, sprawled over the bunk bed. She opens her eyes- the blue iris' shimmer with loveliness.

"I…I want to thank you."

"What for?"

"For wishing me to be human. An evil woman trapped me in that mermaid body three years ago, and I promised the one that would save me would spend the rest of their life with me."

"You mean… you want to marry me?"

"Yes… yes I do. But I have one question. Have you heard of a Jenny Longly?"

"She's my soon to be ex-wife!"

"It was her that trapped me in that fishy body"

Witch wouldn't even describe her personality...

Nice yarn. It has a sumptuous quality - some good description in there, although the ending is a little far-fenched.

AJ! Haven't spoken to you for ages?

There was a distinct lack of AJ and Gerrid last week. It was scary.

It was extremely well written but it was too fictional and a bit 'disney' to appeal to me. The end was rushed a bit and the whole story ended in a few lines, you could have extended and killed the ex wife or something!

Also calling the dog Sandy when it is on a beach is god juxtapositioning :-D

I liked it but I won't remember it.
