Since you use a router in combination with ethernet ports/cards, I was wondering, is it just the same as using a hub, but the router allows you to share an internet connection?
If it makes more sense, the question I'm asking is: does a router act as a (network) hub aswell as sharing the internet? Like would file sharing accross multiple computers be avaliable using a router?

Yes. A hub is just a dumb repeater - any traffic incoming to any of its ports gets repeated out to all other ports. A router is basically a more intelligent, programmable hub, and one of the things you can often get it to do is NAT internet sharing (what you're after). You'll still be able to file/print/porn share just like you do with a hub as well.
