27 years since Concorde began it’s first flight. Now it’s about to begin it’s last. Yesterday, Concorde was announced it would end in October. While this may not affect you that much, it affects me greatly and my surrounding. With this announcement, the rural area I live in, Filton, will lose the company that keeps the place alive. Thousands have lost their jobs and have until October to find new ones. My dad included. After 24 years of dedicated work to British Aerospace, they have made him redundant and just by looking at him; you can tell he is devastated. So why did it all go wrong for the Concorde?

Many can blame the era of a couple of years ago on 25th July 2000. That crash that killed 109 Germans and 4 French as well. Also around that time, it was known that the Concorde parts were being poorly manufactured.
Then we come to the September 11th incident. Using fellow aeroplanes, Osama Bin Laden killed many many people. This put a lot of people off flying. P.S, I was in New York 1 week before the incident.

Then we have the current situation in Iraq. As well of people afraid to fly because of war, it has caused rifts between fellow countries. The UK and France called off their contract between their manufactures because of the current situation. This was the final straw for an industries struggling for years now.

As I said, this may not affect you but for my area, the only huge employer we have now are the Ministry of Defence and although this is a huge place, can you see them employing every single redundant worker form British Aerospace?

Why has concorde had it, apart from the not easily forgotten image of a plane with 100+ people on rising into the sky then exploding ?

Overpriced. Very few people can afford it, and it's use for business people is over because they no longer need ultra quick travel for many things. Welcome to the digital world BA.....

On another note, the MOD may find employment for BAE's workers, the new JSF contract is signed and in the works - although don't be surprised to see the Eurofighter project finished, which could counter the JSF work.

For anyone wondering what the JSF is, it's Joint Strike Fighter, it's american/british co designed, and we, along with the Israeli's, are the only ones outside of America to get it around about 2012. It will replace the harrier as our primary carrier aircraft and the new super carriers - currently being built - are designed for them. It can be configured for multiple roles, has stealth capability, and basically kicks the Eurofighters ***. Lucky us :)

I saw this on the news last night, shame I recon.

Stupid terrorism and crashing planes has put people off flying and so the lesser used airlines are suffering. Poor ol' concorde.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
