I'm in complete agreement that the Life forum has gone downhill, and I do believe that the change of it's name to intellegent discussion is a good one, but people are still going to post here about things that would be more suited to Chat regardless of the name of the forum or the warnings that the Life regulars give them.

But as much as it's not nice to see people posting in here about what they had for breakfast or whatever, for me it's worse to see people replying "Stick it in Chat, muppet!' and the like.

To me, It's harming the forum more than the original post. It keeps the chatty posts at the top of the list, and prompts more, similar replies, but that happens everywhere.

More damaging though, is the fact that we are closing off the Life forum to new users, and setting an image of ourselves that we don't chat to anyone unless they can hold their own. It's almost elitest(sp).

At least if you're gonna slate a rubbish post, do it in style/with humour?

yeah, 'stick it in chat you muppet' seems to be a common theme in this forum. suddenly the forum has its own police force.

headed by 'I'm high on imaginary credibility' notables, and similar stiff upper lipped regulars.

you do get a lot of monkeys on here, not naming any names, and you're probably right, they are mostly newbies, but this class war is just pathetic. this isn't a real society, its supposed to be a few guys and gals, of similar mindset, having a chat and a laugh. if some abuse that privilege, they should be banned, but telling people where their posts are appropriate is just sad. I get enough hassle of people like my parents, without treading on egg shells around jam jar glasses wearing gimps with nothing better to do than leave posts like : "I just wanted to point out that not only should your post be in chat, but you mis-spelt the word boner".

I'll tell you what - you people have big sheds, and no-one is allowed in, and inside these sheds you've got 20 foot high chickens ....

And as its in the life forum - today I hoovered my bedroom, I must admit it was tough getting the nozzle behind the radiator, but in the end I did it, and my room is now pretty much dust free. I sat down, lit a cigarette and thought about how good life is ......

:o)

TBH, with the hibernation of GAD1 I think we could all just move in to Chat.

I really don't see why Life got the "Intelligent Discussion" title.

If you want to label something in a way to seperate it from something else, then why not put "Mindless Drivel" next to FOG Chat? Because that basically has the same effect.

Someone said the other day, it's not necessarily for 'Intelligent Discussion', it's for 'Non Unintelligent Chat.'

There is a difference between say, one of monkey_man's food posts and someone posting a topic saying 'I hurt my arm'. One of those has entertainment value, one does not. But maybe I'm biased because I know every single aspect of monkey_man's life, after he's posted it on this forum - it's almost like I know him...

So, to clarify - this forum is not solely meant for depressing posts about suicide, war and politics (it is called Life and Everything), but it does have a more adult nature to it, and if you're just looking for a place to chat to someone, then perhaps FOG Chat is the place to do it.

I completely disagree with the change of the forum name, and I've made it known to all and sundry. This used to be a light-hearted forum for people who were old enough to know about "life and everything" to have a laugh and a joke at their own and other's expense, real friendly-like. Then it became a haven for depressing little stories that belong in the "Long Stories" forum. That kinda bought the atmosphere down and I found myself visiting less and less. Then it picked up again, but most of it was deemed "spammy" by a certain few (I won't mention any names) who wanted a nice, clear forum for their serious topics about war and political views. As BEARDS said, the forum does have more junk, but it also has more quality posts, which means it's just becoming a bigger forum. Is that a bad thing?

I'm still convinced that it's just a tactic to weed out all the crap, then they'll change it back and the regulars who left will be back too. With their own particular brand of "intelligent" crap.

People need to know when they are posting in the wrong forum. I have put a lot of effort into posts I have made here and I want to keep the atmosphere of the place. If I think something I will say it. I'm not going to make it less assertive by softeninbg the blow, and posting humours replys is not only sussy but also fairly patronising to any intellegence the original poster may have.

I'll say what I want and the only people who can do anything about that are the staffies. And I don't appreciate being told my responses are wrong by anyone but a staff member.

Yeah, I agree, humourous(sp?) insults are indeed better that "U R stuupid, u did vis in teh rong fohrum" crap some users post. The life forum, in my eyes, is a place for you to discuss the highs and lows of life, phillosophical and cultural things and deeper meanings. OK so not everyone is going to comply exactly to what we personally expect them to post but unless it is blatantly in the wrong forum, don't slate them for it. The life forum is the one forum that should offer forgiviness and advice instead of criticism.
