Otherwise i can go for a Geforce 4Ti4800-SE go up to a Athlon XP 2600 and a bigger hard drive.
With onboard NIC's is it good enough that it is not a neccesity to have a separate card for my Broadband, however with onboard sound (other than Soundstorm) and onboard Graphics, dedicated cards for these both will always guarantee performance and you can see how i'm concerned with onboard NIC's.

Never heard of Terratec before until now.

Donnage.
Obviously the less expensive ones are just as good.

How about you try it out and if you don't like it spend the hundred squid or whatever on an Audigy2 you were going to spend anyway? If you like the onboard device and decide against an Audigy, you win £100. If you don't like the onboard device and get an Audigy anyway, you don't lose.
Same logic can apply to the NIC, hmm? (although if you actually go out and buy a seperate PCI NIC because your onboard one "isn't fast enough" I will disown you)

I heard the Soundstorm can be as good as the audigy but i'm not going to tweak it until it works if it has problems.
Forget about onboard graphics and sound.
You'll need an ADSL/Cable modem for your broadband unless you're on a network and are letting another computer/router worry about that.
Stick with the R9700 Pro. Or better, get an R9800 Pro.
