What clever and insightful analysis; he's (Defoe) scored more goals for a team at the bottom of the league than someone who is playing for a team at the top. Rooney has talent, granted, but Defoe looks like being another quality forward. I think they both could feature prominently for England in years too come.

Rooney by a country mile.. as he proved that against Turkey and will continue to do so im sure.

Give the lad a couple of seasons to learn his trade and he is gonna be a top world class player, im in absolutely no doubt of that.

Defoe is a class act but its impossible to compare the two players until they have both been given ample opportunities at full international level, i was hoping that Rooney wasnt gonna be another Barnes and play great for his club and suck for England... thats clearly not the case from the evidence seen so far.

They are both very talented players, but after the performance Rooney played in Englands 2-1 defeat of Turkey, I would have to say Rooney.

As a Hammer I'd say Defoe is the better finisher but Rooney has the edge when it comes to skill. His dribbling is supreme. They would make a good partnership.
