Thompson slams 'diabolical' Heskey treatment

Phil Thompson has revealed his anger at the build-up to Emile Heskey's England axe for Wayne Rooney - saying there is a 'vendetta' against him.

The Liverpool assistant manager has attacked a BBC radio poll asking for opinions on Heskey's selection as "unacceptable."

Thompson said: "Listening to the radio I heard what must have been one of the most diabolical pieces I've ever come across.

"BBC Radio Five were actually running a poll, calling people to e-mail if Emile should play for England against Turkey. I find this unacceptable. There is a personal vendetta against Emile.

"Emile is such a nice guy that he never has a go back at this kind of thing, but I think it's only right we as a club defend him. We will be taking this matter up."

Heskey was an unused sub at The Stadium of Light and may find it difficult to force his way back into Sven Goran Eriksson's starting XI after Rooney's superb display in the win over Turkey.

Well, I guess that showed them all!

Seriously though: the first performance for a while without Heskey, and the first decent, respectable performance against quality opposition.

Coincidence, or selection justified?

Also, Beak... sorry, Mr. Thompson... as the goals came after a certain substitution, maybe there's also another piece of your dead wood that can be chopped...? :-)

Ol' Beaky... Brilliant!

I always thought his nose was just "big", untill I realised there was no-one-else out there with a nose anywhere near as big as his - making it "huge"! :D

But I seriously think Heskey should consider leaving Liverpool, and joining a side like Spurs, perhaps, where he could regain his form with a proper first-team run at a "lower" level.

Just like in his Leicester days...

That's the only way he'll save his England career!

On his perfomrance last night, I'd want him IN the squad! Another 'sitter' he missed - somehow managing to scoop it straight up in the air.

HAHA! :D

Just wish Sven let him play the whole game so he would have been knackered for the game at OT on saturday.

I don't think Heskey should be in the England squad at all, but having a poll and criticising him in the papers and on TV is not right.

He tries his best and that's all there is to it, but he should never be in the England team.
