AMES, Iowa. (March 17, 2003)--Although the illegal sharing of copyrighted movies and music via peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing applications is well publicized, a study released today by Palisade Systems indicates that accessing adult and child p**nography is the single largest use of these applications today. According to the study, 42% of all searches on Gnutella file-sharing applications were for adult or child p**nographic movies or images.
In an analysis of over 22 million searches on file-sharing networks, the study found the following:
73% of all movie searches were for p**nography
24% of all image searches were for child p**nography
6% of all searches were for child p**nography of some kind
Only 3% were for non-p**nographic or non-copyrighted materials
No, I don't know why they blanked out the word pornographic, but considering that there are already loads who download music and movies, the number of paedophiles out there is beyond belief.
The reason I've read through the reports is to advise my dad (who knows little about download software) to find out if the things they claim are true and whether they could have downloaded the stuff by accident, but from what many claim in their statements they are in fact, dirty little liars.
After a couple of weeks, it gets boring and you start looking for music, videos etc.
Novelty wears off.
And although it's tempting to immediately hit the "Big Paedo Panic Button", I'd find out more on those statistics
