I had to reinstall Windows etc a few weeks ago, have just come to use my Liteon burner for the first time and it is recognised OK in the control panel (but has standard Microsoft CD Rom drivers - is this right ?, got no drivers with the drive) when I try to install Nero it won't install because I think it doesn't think the drive is a burner, just a standard CD Rom drive. I don't know what else to try :(

Does't the OS just install it by itself?

Turbo, I got no drivers with the drive (I know this is correct because a friend bought the drive also) and there are none on the official website, I never had this problem with installation previously. Will investigate when I get home. Ta

Try getting the drivers for it, really. You can't rely on Win98 to have them. You can probably get them from the LiteON website.

I have Windows 98, was working fine and don't think it's gone wrong, works fine as a CD Drive but not as a burner. I don't have another maching to test it in at moment, will have another go at it tonight when I get home.

Thanks

Have you got XP? If so when you right click on the drive and click properties then a tab should appear on the far right which is for recording. If you don't get this then something is wrong, as I had to get a new burner due to XP not seeing the drive as a burner, it was only a 2x so it was time to upgrade.

Seeing as your burner is a new one(48x I am guessing from the name) then I dont see why it wouldnt work, maybe it is actually broken? Can your try it in another machine?

It recognises the correct model burner (Liteon 48125S), but calls it a General CD Rom, what should it be recognised as ?

Right click on My Computer, got to Properties, then Hardware, then Device Manager. What does it identify your drive as?
