I am 16 years old and if I had another chance at living my life, I would certainly do things a lot differently. Everyone has regrets, everybody does stupid little things they wish they hadn’t and everyone will have made big decisions that had unforeseen consequences. We say things we don’t mean all the time and lose friends and people close to us because of mistakes and stupid actions. You cannot change what you have done in the past, no matter how old you are and no matter how many things you have done that you regret.
Nobody seems to understand the true power of words; people would rather focus their attention on a hypocritical dictator in lands far away and intervene. The powers that be underestimate the impact their words have on so many lives. By simply saying, “We are at war”, thousands of lives are ruined and millions more people feel as if they have no control over their nation. Words are more powerful than any biological or chemical weapon in the hands of a mad man, words are what defines us from our primitive ancestors and puts up at the top of the food chain.
The magnitude of things that could be changed if we said things a little differently is humongous, each word and actions results in something different in our future. The fact you opted to take a certain university course could result in meeting your life partner, the fact you chose to read this could well change the way you perceive reality forever more, but I doubt it. Humans are a shallow species. Even the deepest of us are shallow transparent creatures who’s every action is to better themselves. Selflessness doesn’t exist; people only do nice things to make them feel better about themselves. People give to charities so them don’t feel victimised by the ‘plea for help’ adverts and don’t feel mean when they hear about the starving people in Africa. People only comfort those who are upset so they don’t feel bad for not doing so.
Very few people understand how the human mind works, despite all the psychologists with degrees and masters in ‘understanding’ people. People vary, like any species, but the same instincts are there. People are money hungry and selfish, alliances can be forged and broken over a few digits and marriages can take place because of the wealth of the people involved. People only go to work because they get paid for it, there is no passion or choice left in the world. People are forced to continue their mundane lives so they can live in relative comfort and whittle out a cosy little nook in the corner of the world to shelter in until they pass away.
If the human mind is so advanced, how come nobody knows why we are all here? People constantly ponder, ‘what is the grand scheme of things? Why are we here?’ People search for a meaning behind everything; every word ‘has’ to have a deeper meaning and each action ‘must’ be accounted for. People have to learn to let go, let life pass them by and not spend each second trying to solve the riddle of the world. Some questions don’t have an answer, and there are some things we aren’t meant to know.
We have, on average, 75 years to live. This is nothing in comparison to the length of the human race. The window of opportunity you have to make a difference to the world is even smaller, you will not be listened to until you are 18 and by 60 you are shelved into a nursing home and classed an incompetent. Perhaps you won’t be a world leader or a president. You might not be the person who saves the world from a virus or an inventor who makes a life-altering item. To change the world you live in, you need to make a difference. It doesn’t matter how big or how small the difference is, as long is it changes. This way you will be remembered, whether it is for good or bad it your choice, but it is better to be remembered than lost and forgotten in time. If you devote your life to a person, you have made a difference. To the world you may only be one person, but to one person you will be the world. Do something in your life, even if it is just one tiny thing, which will make a difference to someone. Be remembered. Don’t be just a statistic on a spreadsheet in some office. Don’t be driven by money, do something because you love it and have a passion for it. Never feel unequal or unworthy, we are all born the same and we all die equal, it is your actions what will make you rise above over people.
You are what you make yourself, make your life something special. Be remembered.
Pardon?
I agree with a lot of the stuff you wrote. Especially the 3rd and 4th paragraph. Seems very true with a lot of people.
>The fact you opted to take a certain university course could result in >meeting your life partner, the fact you chose to read this could well >change the way you perceive reality forever more, but I doubt it.
I like thinking about that, it's interesting and makes you wonder a lot about the paths we might take in the future. Makes you wonder whether something that we have already chosen may have been right or wrong. Although, I doubt there is no right or wrong.
Now, I'm getting confused by what I'm writing..
You shall be heard..
