It's for a Uni project, honest! I need to get videos from my PC to play on my TV. The obvious answer is burning to CD, but what software/hardware do I need for that? also, are there any leads that just plug from the back of PC that lead to tele?

Hm, you just need a graphics card with TV out, really...if you're due for an upgrade, look for it as a feature on your new card (it's becoming more and more standard) - if not, look in to just buying a cheaper pci geforce4 or suchlike, should be about £60, most of which have TVout (if not, find any other cheap card with TVout). The card almost certainly wont come with the actual cable to connect to the TV, but may have an S-video > composite converter dongle. You either need a standard cable with yellow phono jacks on each end to plug in to the dongle, or a PC > DVD kit (belkin make a good one, part number F8V351N05M) for about £15 which should have a 3.5mm jack > stereo phono jacks for audio, and an Svideo cable, all of which can then be plugge din to a SCART adapter to stick in to the back of your TV.

No special software required, graphics drivers for the card should sort you out fine, but be warned that the resolution is nothing like that of a monitor, so don't count on reading text from it..

A TV out cable?

I'm not too sure, because I've been wondering about it too.. for different reasons. *ahem*

I thought maybe you could connect one of those 'tv out' (or tv in?!!) cables to watch your stuff on it.

Anyhoo, an answer would be appreciated too..

You get DVD players that will play mpgs and avi files but unless you have one or would like one then thats too costly for a uni project.

There is a thing that is aimed at parents, think it uses radio to send information. You plug it into the PC and can then watch exactly what is on the screen through your tv. No idea where I saw it or how much it costs.

I've seen laptops connected to TVs using a scart lead but I think some kind of software is required to do this.

Hopefully someone will know exactly how and an easier way than this.
