I think that the N64, despite all the stick it has taken, will recieve an second wind from the release of the GC. Hear me out, I know the obvious thing to happen would be for the Gamecube to carry on from where the N64 left off but I think that when people start to play games on the GC that had an N64 version they will go back and pick up a cheap N64 an go through some of the best games!

I would put money on the fact that the two Nintendo consoles will ride together for a while. (If I had any!) It has happened with pop stars aswell, The second album was a hit and so the public bought the first to see if there were any good songs! Zelda: TOOT sales shot up in HMV because of the release of the sequel. People who didn't really know Zelda from lack of experience would buy the first one for a tenner and then buy or not buy the second according to their opinions on the first one.

If it can happen to pop stars, console games and all, then it can happen to consoles and my bet is that it WILL!

I think Sega got lucky when the PS2 arrived with all its inherent problems. N64 won't be so lucky. When the GC comes out people are more likely to trade in the N64 for the GC, and those that don't want or can't afford the GC, will pick up a second hand DC. So Sega will get a third wind and the N64 will die.

The same thing happened with the SNES!

People loved the N64 on release and loads of people bought the SNES at the same time (Including my brother)

The bad thing is I don't think normal N64's are available anymore! I think you can only get the Pikachu N64's now!

Special REserve don't sell the normal ones anymore and neither do Electronics Boutique!

However I think it's either Argos or Index are STILL trying to sell Megadrives!

I think your right, alot of great N64 games can be picked up cheaply even now.. and as cartridges are sturdier than CDs you can buy a second hand game and be 99% sure it'll work...plus lets face it its the multiplayer machine to own. Myself, I bought my N64 second hand 2 years ago, and the only thing that suprises me about the machine is that it didnt sell better. The biggest problem it had was the lack of Third party support, this was mainly due to Nintendos preference to use expensive cartridges over the cheap CD media.
Nintendo should do well with the Gamecube though as it will use cheap optical media, and so will have third party support. Nintendo is also known for its quality, something that will mean that the Gamecube will sell well. Anyone who doesnt own a N64 should get one and some cheap games, they dont cost much and theyll provide hours of fun.
