Does Jack Bauer even really work at CTU?
Lets investigate:
Day 1- Jack is in charge of CTU but soon gets into trouble for being accused of attempting to assainate David Palmer. He gets provisionally reinstated once Palmer pulls a few strings.
Day 2- He doesnt work for them from the beginning. He is asked to help on a lead they have and ends up working there all day, provisionally.
Day 3- He's head of field ops but soon becomes a figitive when he breaks Salazar out of prison. This all turns out to be a pre-organised undercover operation and he gets reinstated, provisionally, but is told that he'll get shouted at late.
Day 4- He works for The Secretary of Defense after being fired from CTU. He is the only person who knows the location of a key witness and refuses to tell CTU unless they reinstate him on a permanent, only joking, I meant provisional basis.
Day 5- He's dead. Or so everyone thinks. He comes out of hiding when his friends start getting killed and hangs around at CTU all day to help them with their latest crisis. I guess he got a provisional reinstatement.

Judging by the end of season 5 Id guess he wont be working for CTU in 6 either.
