By now we have all probably heard about the blackouts afflicting the electronics industry in California. $1,000,000's being lost due to random power failures, throwing everything in turmoil. Gaming companies not able to work on their masterpieces, depriving the eager punter of vital computer enjoyment! They say its due to an unprecedented power demand mixed up by excessively appalling weather conditions! But I will reveal the dark secret behind this evil conspiracy! There are in fact some people who are benefiting from these sad events! Yes, you know who they are those UPS manufacturers.
No, not UPS the delivery guys, the people who make and sell universal power systems. Those devious devices that let you keep on going with your PC, even when there is a powercut! According to one source, sales have increased 800%!
"Usually, we sell maybe one a week; so far this week we've sold maybe eight,"
Sales for UPS's reached record figures last year, APC (big UPS manufacturer) made something like $1.3 billion. So what have these individuals been doing behind closed doors eh? Where is next on their hitlist? Perhaps they teamed up with RAM manufacturers to start those quakes in Turkey a while back? RAM was getting too cheap, need to bump that price up, get some revenue going! Maybe there is someone behind all of this? A Mister Big, who has a lot to gain by inflating electronic goods costs?
A source, who wishes to remain anoymous, revealed this to me:
"All I know is that UPS's didn't sell like they used too, right. And you know them processors, well they're gettin' too cheap too. So someone says that they are gonna make things change, you know cool down the market sort of."
Who knows what this spells for the processor market, swarm of locusts to attack AMD headquarters in Canada?
All I can say is that you have been warned, so look out Thames Valley, the so-called Silicon Valey of the UK, you could be next!

Who, me?
I'm just a small cog in a giant set of lots of cogs that do something not very useful, but could be, if someone came up with a good idea for using lots of cogs in interesting ways.

Here is the story:

I wish to formally apoligise for tripping over the single power lead that caused the industry to lose a rather large sum of money, you see it wasn't my fault, I was walking back through the offices and there it was...a full video of Abe's new game, I watched and continued to walk and as a result of not looking of where I was going....

....I tripped on the lead and the power crashed.........

opps!! But the video was good

Sorry, didn't realise that I had to be 100% accurate when having a laugh. I'll pass your helpful economic info on to my anoymous source. I'm sure any threats they made will no longer be pursued, Thamse VAlley can rest easy now. But be warned, they could rise again!

Actually it was the Malasian earthquake that raise ram prices! Anyway, the UPS box for PCs actually has a big battery thing in that allows 30 mins computer use during power cuts and even tells you to save work (or does it automatically). Anyway, I don't think that a good way to raise money would be to go millions into the red for the sole perpose of selling boxes costing a few hundred.
