A) 2 - 1 defender and 1 goalkeeper
What is the keeper goes up for a corner is it still 2 players, like 2 defender or is just 1 ?
It's 2 opponents!
If the goalie goes up for a corner then it's the last 2 defenders not the last defender and goalie.
it isnt 1 defender and 1 goalkeeper its 2 opponents just think what if the goalkeeper is right on the opponents goal line and there are the rest of the team are defending that wouldn't be offside
No.
It's only if the player is closer than the ball and the second last opponent.
What i mean is say a player is on the byline after racing past the defence. The keeper comes out to meet him but the player knocks it back to a player on the penalty spot, who is also ahead of the defence, who smacks it in the onion bag.
I've seen this many times before and wondered why it was never called for offside seeing as the player who scored was ahead of the defence. The only thing i can think of is that if the ball goes backwards then the player isn't offside. Is that right?
I was near enough right with the reason.
Here's a little extract from a site I found though that's pretty good:
A player is in an offside position if:
he is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent
A player is not in an offside position if:
he is in his own half of the field of play
he is level with the second last opponent
he is level with the last two opponents
~Commiting an Offside Offence~
A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by:
interfering with play
interfering with an opponent
gaining an advantage by being in that position
~No Offence~
There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from:
a goal kick
a throw-in
a corner kick
~Infringements/Sanctions~
For any offside offence, the referee awards an indirect free kick to the opposing team to be taken from the place where the infringement occurred.
"A player is offside if he is closer to the opposing teams goal line than both the ball and the second last defender."
The goalie counts as a defender, all players count as defenders when they are in their own half...
And they can't be offside in their own half.
I'll find the official law for you, it's in one of my books.
