Ok, you've just finished watching the Blair Witch Project, and you feel like making your own movie. Well for starters you should move away from jerky home video camera Blair Witch style film because that only works once, and avoid the new wave of slasher films beause it's always the mental boyfriend. To make a fantastic horror film you should revert back to old style movies of the late 70's and early 80's. You all know the ones, they have some of the lowest budgets for a film ever, and the worst special effects with a highly unbelievable story line.
Well as we all know a great story must have a good begining. This is where most of your budget on special effects is spent. I find that some kind of ritual sacrifice is the best where a busty blond is being fed to a monster. She will be devoured, so losts of close ups of arms being pulled off and other similar stuff. Now to do this you'll need a dummy. Get some old clothes and stuff them with plstic bags painted red to look like some one is wearing them. When the arm is being pulled off cover it wih ketchup for the blood and hve people out of shot throwing red paint infront of the camera. Remember the worse the special effecs the better. For the monster it needs to be as ugly as possible, so find an ugly kid with a mullet and spot, bucked teeth will help as well. The middle of the film needs less work. The monster has escaped and is killing lots of people, so more shots of people running around and getting killed. Thrown in a scene of a couple making love when the monster walks in and kills them. For this scene you'll need buckets of paint. Now we have come to the end of the film. This is where a whole lot more people get killed, but more importantly the monster is killed. This is very simple, it involves some mad story about how the monster can only be killed by a silver steak knive or something (you can make it up as you go along). If you are feeling adventurous you could leave room for a sequal by saying the the monster impregnated some woman.
Now you've made your film you can show to all your friends, but yours doesn't have to be the same as mine, but it should be over the top and realy gory. If have anything to add please tell me.

I'm by no means an expert on this subject, but just because you want to make a low-budget film, that doesn't mean it has to be a corny horror film.

There are endless possibilities when film-making, and just because you don't have the money to have any kind of special effects, you can still make a damn good film.

I've made a few short films with my hi-8 camcorder and, although they're not really very good, it really does show what you can do with a cheap camcorder and a creative mind.

Take for example Kevin Smith's Clerks; the film cost about £15,000 to make (most of which was post-production costs) and has become a highly successful film and gained a cult following.

With film-making equipment getting cheaper and cheaper all the time, and websites like BT's getoutthere.com picking up new talent, now really is a great time to pick up a camcorder and start filming!
