So long as you don't get depressed over life as a whole, then these little slips just help you appreciate the good times better. :-)
The human race is on better form than ever.
The only 2 differences are that this better form gives us a conscience so we are more aware of the wrongs and that we are more capable than ever so our mistakes and mis-judgements have larger consequences.
Trust me, with nuclear weapons etc, we could have done a LOT worse.
Yes, things go wrong. Yes, the world is full of corruption. Yes, the world is far from perfect.
But when did people start expecting it to be perfect?
And even when everything does seem perfect, the bubble's bound to burst sooner or later. It might be something goes wrong, or it might be that you just start to lose content over what you have.
You see, no matter WHAT you have in life, you will never be 100% content.
There will always be something missing.
If you have little then you wish you had more.
If you have much then you start to wish you didn't have so much to be responsible for.
Whatever you have or love will own part of you.
And even when 95% of that time you're glad for having it and being owned by, there will always that 5% when you see greener grass on the other side.
So it is with all things in life.
You become happy when you stop expecting perfection and just appreciate the good times that come your way.
Yes, there isn't always perfect justice.
Drug dealers do seem to get the nice clothes and lifestyles.
Do you think they're happy though?
With the business they're in, everyday they're at risk from rivals, the law and could lose everything they have in an instant.
How many of their friends can they trust?
How many will take the first chance to stab them in the back and take over?
I know how many times I've forgotten that it's not what you have, it's whether you're happy with it, that really counts.
Things are pretty bad on the Iraqi people, but this isn't the first time that people have ever suffered, nor will it be the last.
Still, compare their suffering to past wars and you'll see how comparatively minimal it is.
Back in the early days, primitive warfare saw tribes no merely fighting, but also pillaging villiages, burning a small peaceful village and all it's inhabitants to the ground.
Even the second world war had soldiers toying with and executing civillians of captured terrains.
In this fight with Iraq, more effort has been put into protecting civillians than destroying Saddam. Even though this good nature has been horribly abused by Iraqi forces who have used trickery to launch surprise attacks, the allied troops are still doing their best to make life for the enemy civillians fair.
Ofcourse, bombing their towns hasn't exactly helped this cause, but although civillians have been hit, the main targets were for a military cause.
The only thing that has gotten worse in terms of warfare is the scale of the forces and weaponry involved. So that means that even with improved morals, the death toll and destruction will still be pretty high.
But the fact that more and more people are seeing this as a bad thing shows that we're on the right track...
Now this reply is probably pointless, because by the time you come to read it, you might well have gotten over that stroke of depression you had earlier, and be thinking positive again.
But still, it might be worth thinking about and remembering.
