Firstly, the main problem with starting off the collection at the beginning is that Clerks is only available on DVD in America, and since I was not exactly prepared to go back to crappy old VHS, the only option was to hunt down a cheap copy from a US stockist. After visiting several well known ones (including DVDBoxoffice) I found that the average price for this great movie was around £13.99. Well, stuff that, I've found it cheaper and region free to boot.
For the discerning collector, the US version would be the first choice, but since the only difference is the few extras that are included, I opted for the version sold by CDWOW, which comes in at £8.99.
Now on to the next film, Mallrats. Yes, I know it was on TV recently, but that never stopped my buying DVDs before. Well, you'll be pleased to hear that the region 2 release of this DVD is on budget and you can pick it up for £7.99 at Play.com. Again, you could go for the more expensive collectors edition on region 1, with all the extras it provides, but I'm on a budget here.
Chasing Amy is the next one to go for. I lucked in with this one, using all the links for free ipoints I managed to amass 100 of the little devils and with this went back to CDWOW to get a FREE copy of the movie. Great, but if you don't want the (very small) hastle of collecting ipoints, then you can pick it up for £6.99 at the same place. If you want to go one further (which does involve buying goods through ipoints site) you can always get another 150 points and get Clerks for free as well.
Dogma is the easiest, just go to Play.com. This one has some nice little extras on the disc too, at a pretty good price of £8.99. Looking good so far.
Now, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was a bit of a pain. It's a relatively new movie, so I didn't expect it to be that cheap. True enough, most online retailers have it at around £13.99. That was until I happened to browse my local Woolies store. Looking through the sale DVDs I noticed a familiar white case. yes, there it was, the last Kevin Smith movie of the set for £10.99, with 2 discs of Snootchie-bootchies goodness.
So, lets recap:
Clerks £8.99
Mallrats £7.99
Chasing Amy FREE
Dogma £8.99
J&SBSB £10.99
Total Price £35.52 for 5 great movies.
Can anyone do any better?
It's also a pretty fine UK Kevin Smith site in general.
