A bitter Arsene Wenger blasted Valencia's spoiling tactics as his side crashed out of the Champions League again.
The Gunners finished third in Group B thanks to two John Carew goals and a ruthless performance from the two-time finalists and reigning Spanish champions.
Wenger admitted his side were out-thought in the Mestalla, but was far from happy with the approach adopted by Valencia.
"When it was 2-1 to them it was no game any more because they spoilt the game," said Wenger. "They laid down and stayed down and there was no fluency, it was difficult to play football."
"We are very disappointed. We were on top of the game in the first half but didn't take advantage of it. Valencia had one shot on goal in the first half and we found ourselves 1-0 down at half-time.
"Maybe we lost the game when we got it back to 1-1 because we dropped too much physically. We didn't create any more chances and Valencia were stronger physically than us - a reversal of the first half."
Wenger refused to concede that Valencia deserved their success and subsequent quarter-final spot, but backed his own side to bounce back and go in search of another domestic double.
The Gunners travel to Chelsea in an FA Cup replay next week and are now locked in a three-way battle for the Premiership with Manchester United and Newcastle, who are also free to concentrate on the league following their Barcelona loss.
"When you don't qualify everyone is responsible, the manager, the players and the coaching staff, we are all in the same boat," said Wenger. But we have nothing to be ashamed of tonight - it was an unfortunate loss. We didn't deserve to lose tonight and this was the only game we lost.
"It is a big disappointment and the players are down. We need to be mentally tough but I have confidence in the strength of my team and we'll do that.
"It is too early to say if changes need to be made. We still have a lot to go for this season and we want to go as far as we can and assess things then. It is early days and we want to finish well in the championship and play in the FA Cup."

So, basically, he's saying that it was unfair of Valencia to have defended their 2-1 lead... How dare they! You don't see too-many teams doing that in the world's top-competitions, these days, do you?!
He'll have to add that to the list when he goes and whines to UEFA! :)
It's reading something like this that fills me with the hope that Wenger, and Arsénal will c***-up in the league sooner-or-later, and hand us the Title... :D
Not to waste time, anyway...to win penalties, it has been known ;-)
I would have no problem if they just took the ball to the corner, but they went down when there wasn't any contact, they went down like they were shot when their shirt was pulled etc.
