I’ve just been reading one of my mags and: ‘THQ’ have just recently signed a deal with ‘SIEMENS’ to supply game content for its mobile phones. ‘Siemens’ is working on video phones, which will port some of ‘THQ’s’ biggest games such as the mighty ‘Smackdown’. Remember, the wireless environment doesn’t mean standing next to your best mate battling each other, it means battling anyone in the world, you could be sitting in your room battling someone on their way home from work on the train, chilling out whilst putting you through a table on ‘wwf smackdown’.
I personally believe this is one huge step for gaming kind and is an amazingly creative idea. I also think that they will sell brilliantly well because already about half the population own mobile phones. So soon all the top brands like the nokia 33:10 will be yesterday’s news and the new top of the range “must have phones” like the videophone from ‘siemens’ will be bought as the ultimate in latest technology.
The problem I can see is that these will only appeal to commuters or back seats of cars on long trips. Regular gamers would prefer the enhanced graphics available from PC or Console games.
The way around this is to have WAP modems and microphones built into laptops, which is already happening. Then you have online gaming with the great standard of graphics and sound that you currently get from PCs/Consoles, but on the move as well. So maybe phones, whilst getting more and more advanced and providing more and more features at present, will eventually merge with the laptop to produce, what? A WAPtop?
Yeah, WAPtop sounds good....
Can't wait... :D
