Right, here goes, simply follow the steps below:

1) Think of a number. It must be a whole number, and it must be 1 or above.

2) Multiply your number by 9. (This is the bit where the people who chose a large number, choose again).

3) Take away 5 from your number. (This is why it has to be 1 or above)

4) Look at your number and add the individual digits together. For example if you had 158, your new total would be 14.

5) Keep doing step 4 until you have a single digit. In the example above this would be 5.

6) Now convert your number to a letter using the following pattern: A=1, B=2, C=3 - - I=9.
So in the previous example your letter would be E.

7) Find this letter on the keyboard.

8) To make a word look at the letter to the left of your letter, and use this twice. For example with E, you look left, and are given W W.

9) Now add the letter directly below and a little to the left of your letter, and add this new letter to your word. For the example this would be S.
(Note: Steps 8 and 9 only work properly on a qwerty keyboard)

10) You now have a three letter word. This three letter word is the name of one of the best games around.

A dragon who is good at acronyms, and if you`ve read that other topic, I`ve forgotten what it was, then you are also a magical dragon, and now a mathematician also! I hope you`re not an evil fearsome dragon.

You`re absolutely right about the multiples of nine thing. The problem seems really clever the first time you do it, but then when you realise why it works, it doesn`t seem as good.

It's one of those clever number tricks in which you always end up with the the same answer. The key to it comes down to the 9 times table:

9
18
27
36
etc
So if you add the digits together you always get 9. If you've previously taken 5 from the total, then you'll get 4. And 4 will always be D.

Very clever!

I take it nobody tried it. Either that or it wasn`t worth replying to. I realise that it is a very simple trick, but its still fun.
