AS you may know, I just bought a new computer, with Windows XP. It has an internal 56k modem but it doesn't seem to register on the computer. Went to system information, and there is no modem on the list. How do I get it up and running?

Ok, never mind, I phoned the people and they sent a really bad disk of drivers. When you put it in, it doesnt give you an option to install a driver, and you have to use my computer to find it.

Is it a freeola modem?

DO you have a driver disk for it?

Have you installed the drivers for it?

Go to Start->Control Panel->Phone and Modem Options

Disable the "force device to play silly buggers" option.

While you're there, make sure the "give even a semblance of helpful information next time I ask a question" is checked. The reason for this becomes clear if you right click->properties on 'other people' - you may notice that 'psychic' is greyed out.

Have you installed it!

Is it not registering at all one bit. No sign of it.

Go to control panel, and add new hardware, search for it and see what comes up.

If nowt comes up it could be worth opening it up and re-insterting it in.
