Never going anywhere,
Doing out quiet jobs,
In our quiet clothes,
Going back to our nice houses,
In our nice cars,
To sit quietly filling in meaningless paperwork,
Answering meaningless questions,
Or watching meaningless half-depth,
Then we quietly slip into bed and are quiet for a few hours,
Never wanting,
Never daring,
To ask the questions,
Because we’re scared of the answers we may receive,
Maybe if we ignore it it’ll go away?
Maybe, just maybe it’s not what I think,
Maybe, just maybe it’s what I want to believe,
I’m not just a meaningless cog turning a meaningless mechanism in a meaningless machine in the meaninglessness,
Believe.
Lets make ourselves over,
Lets make a change for the better,
Lets get a promotion,
A slight increase in paperwork,
A slight increase in paper currency,
Lets gain ourselves some dignity,
Lets kid ourselves that we’re doing some good,
That we’re somehow worth something,
This wind of change,
This new you,
This pay rise,
This ‘moving up in the world’
Just another defence barrier,
Another shield,
Another wall,
Another expendable soldier whose family don’t know where or how he is,
Another excuse,
To not ask ourselves the questions that we’re to afraid to answer,
The reason no one questions anything is through fear,
The hardest part of searching for truth and finding an answer,
Is not how hard it is get there,
But it’s coming to terms with what you find,
That’s the hard part,
That’s when the sand gets kicked in your face,
Or is that just an excuse to cry?
The braves that have the courage to introspect,
To ask the shamed questions,
When they find the answer,
Then they can see,
They can see through the barricades,
The fortress of mirrors we surround ourselves with,
And the fortress of meaningless trivia that we try to distract ourselves with,
They can see through and remove the safety net that we’ve erected around our lives,
And they can see the point,
They can see the pointlessness,
And so they jump,
Hush hush,
We aren’t supposed to know,
Pretend that it never happened,
Maybe,
Just maybe,
It’ll go away?
I really honestly liked that.
