Last years qualifying saw Raikkonen take his only pole position of the year in the blistering sunshine with a time of 1m35.088s. It was a very good day for McLaren as Coulthard took second place. Williams drivers Montoya and Ralf Schumacher took third and fourth and Minardi drivers Webber and Yoong took 5th and 6th.
The race was totally different. The race started with a wet track and drizzle but turned into a monsoon. The person who made the best tyre choice was going to win. The person who made the best choice was Frentzen. He started 9th on the grid and drove faultlessly to win his first of two races in a season that saw him finish runner-up in the championship. The eventual World Champion started his campaign rolling with a 2nd place finish. Heidfeld completed the podium in third. Ralf Schumacher, Bernoldi and Massa completed the top 6.
Lap Records:
Qualifying: 1m35.088s Raikkonen
Race: 1m51.669s De La Rosa
Can Frentzen put the demise of Arrows and his failure to win the championship behind him and win in Malaysia for a second time? Can Raikkonen take pole position for the second time in Malaysia? Can Panis start his defense of the championship here like last season and put the disappointment of Australia behind him?

Go Trulli! :D
Keep forgetting that Panis was the Champion.
> Looks like Panis didn't do very well on this track last time.
He did well. He finished 2nd here. I didn't put Panis up there by name but I did mention 'the eventual World Champion'.
Looks like Panis didn't do very well on this track last time.
