Mid last week one of my flatmates had a friend visit, staying overnight. One of my other flatmates, apparently, 'pulled' her.

As I've had my head burried in my dissertation recently I didn't hear about the story until this morning. But it turns out that the evening she stayed here, he wasn't.. up to the job.

Whether it was a question of brewer's droop is, for now, beside the point, because whatever the cause, his problem has been the subject of LOTS of cheap jokes behind his back.

My opinion on such problems was formed a while ago when seeing that Pele advert, and considering the ensuing mocking a bit out of order.
If he had any other problem nobody would bat an eyelid, save showing a bit of sympathy. As I uderstand it, if SR don't mind me discarding the veil of euphanisms, erection problems are either medically or psychologically based disorders, usually treatable, and really no real reflection on the character of the sufferer.
So ridiculing the masculinity of a sufferer is pretty much below the belt (no pun intended).

Of course, when offered the above argument my flatmate's gleaning intellectual insight was along the lines of 'Ah-ha, you can't get it up'.
(For the record I can, and the fact that I feel the need to point that out to you only fuels my contempt for people in general).

But when it comes down to it, at some time you've probably taken the same mocking attitude towards erection problems. I know I did until I gave it any real thought.

So I challenge you now, either justify the mocking or next time show some more respect to the greatest footballer in the world.

"Get Help. I would."

Those words uttered by Pele imply that he doesn't suffer from impotence, just a nasty case of I'll-advertise-anything-for-money-itis.

If he was a sufferer, he would have said; "Get Help, I HAVE." surely?

Children laugh at such things because they massively over-rate sex to the point where it becomes the meaning of existence.

Sex isn't important. You do it, or you don't do it.

Who cares?

I pretty much agree with what you've said, but that's human nature. I think that it depends on the personalities of the people in question. I don't think there's anything wrong with a little ribbing now and again, provided that the recipient understands that it shouldn't be taken to heart. If it is then there is a problem. Chances are that the problem was temporary and probably an isolated incident, possibly due to alcohol?
I know I'm totally speculating then but if that is the case then a little bit of mickey taking shouldn't do much harm.
The biggest problem I have witnessed is when the taker of the mickey is so involved in his mickey taking that he or she doesn't realise he or she is actually causing upset, or when the recipient doesn't show any feelings and simply bottles it all up. I think that is probably the worst case.
Anyhoo

Clearly I'm speaking generally there and cannot make any sort of comment on the specific offense.

Pele is a shameless sell out. Brilliant footballer yes, once, but he's sold out so many times he even featured in the Simpsons to advertise wax paper for a sack of cash.
