I know it can be done, playing movies from Memory Stick.

I've no problem ripping DVDs - I can do that in my sleep. But what about the conversion?

I know of software called X-OOM, but from what I've read, it's pretty naff.

If I rip a DVD to my PC, does the PSP come with the necessary software to stick it on a Memory Stick and play it back?

I'd only agree with that it the small software house is putting out software better than the open source freeware which is currently available.

Because you'll starve the programmers!!!!

I'm kidding. Open source and freeware is superb, though it wouldn't hurt to support a respectable small software house once in a while if you can.

But when I can get PSP9 and DVD Shrink legally and for free - or at least a small donation - why pay for a commercial product?

Because you get to support coders who've given up their time and effort in order to create a first class product, of course.

Why would I want to pay when I can do it for free?

I've got all I need now. Cheers everyone.

I used DVD Decrypter, 3GP Converter and AutogordianKnot.

There's probably a quicker method though.

Yes, it needs work on the presentation side, but it does work :D.

PSPvideo9 needs some work on the code!

I'm converting a film in preparation, and it's shown 100% completed for the last 30 minutes, but it's still processing!

You can use DVD Shrink to create a VOB which isn't split into 1Gb chunks (it's an option in the preferences).

Then use the latest version of pspvideo9 to convert it to .mp4 with the latest AVC codec support which the 2.0 update added to the PSP.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
