Times have changed, since I was young, the game is a lot different, and tactics, and rules are ruining the stunning game. Football, my most beloved sport on the planet, I play on a regular basis with the lads. The game we play is much different, than what I see on the Television. We play with a certain passion unprecedented and unmatched by the professionals that I view. We enjoy playing, we don’t get any money for playing, and we play for the fun of it, not for cash, respect, or a new pet dog named Davey-boy Jr.
The game of kings is slowly being turned into a boring, irritating experience. The officials at the grounds are often corrupt, and the ball boys return the ball to the opposing team as slowly as humanly possible and the steak and kidney pie, has been replaced by chicken tikka pie, yes, it is nice, but nothing beats a steak and kidney pie, anyway…
Every few minutes in the match there is an interruption, offside, unintentional handball, pushing, substitution, the list goes on. I find this immensely exasperating, and it is clear the game was not intended for this sort of flow. Managers now use substitutions as lifelines, in the last few minutes of the game, 1-0 up, bring players on and off, to waste time for the teams. These slow downs are unnecessary, and are destroying the sport I love the most. It is almost predictable when the teams enter the last 10 minutes of the game.
I despise of the way try and confuse the opposing team/ player with his little games. For example, when Barthez continually walks from post to post kicking his boots, despite the referee already blowing for the penalty to be taken. It’s little things like this that are demeaning the game.
When I pay around £15 to go and watch a match of my favourite sport, I want to see the sport being played, naturally, how it is meant to be played. Not intentional interruptions every other second. I remember the football I used to watch, and compare it to the ‘new generations’ game. They are arguably, two completely different sports, and I know which I prefer.
There are many ways to solve this desire to ruin the sport. I believe professional footballers pay should be decreased for the ridiculous amounts they get paid now, this should make them play for the passion, I Hold when playing.
I believe substitutions should be illegitimate after 80 minutes of play, thus destroying the concept of time wasting. Unless an injury arises, then the rule is ignored. If a player appears to be imitating an injury, they should be fined, therefore, hopefully, eliminating unnecessary substitutions, and injury mimicking.
I believe football squads should be limited to only 5 overseas players in the first team, this would increase chances for lesser known players to be noticed in their home country. And having homegrown superstars, rather than a team of foreigners, pirates and con artists. I’m not talking directly to Arsenal/ France, but you know what I’m getting at.
I believe the time wasting rule should be reinforced, and made a lot stricter. Fines should be issued to the bores, which try and damage, the precious, vulnerable game.
And I believe, this is how to make the game, the beautiful game, beautiful once more. Instead of the continuous innuendo of the casualty of the sport, being displayed in every professional match.
I will watch ‘The Premiership’ tonight, I hope you do to, and I hope you consider, what I have said.

I made a speech on the exact same topic. If there were more home-grown stars, the England boss would have a large bank of players to draw from and our game would improve immensely.

Yeh, but with so much talent in this country going unreckognised it seems effortless to build a team using foreigners, and the overuse of the system, decreases the amount of chance a player from their own country can get reckognised.

But maybe you would see alot better football from English players (i'm not talking solely about English football, I'm talking all countries should contain the overseas players rule) if the players were getting reckognised, but excellent players are going unoticed in the shadows, of overseas players.

Yes, but these players would still be able to play in the Premiership, the fact is, the teams should decrease the amount of foreign players in the team, so their is more opportunity for others. Just a thought
Personally I prefer lower Division football (division 1/ 2 etc) mainly because it is more direct, exciting football. But nowadays even these teams seem to be encorporating too many overseas players, while young talent is ignored, hence my opinions upon this matter.

The England vs. Brazil game in the last world cup came to mind when you talked of the substitutions and other delays.
Another good post, Sam.
I decided not to dig so much at the lack of home grown talent, because
1) I'm posotive people have already expressed their views upon this matter
2) Because this isn't quite as irritating as a whistle blowing avery 3 seconds.
But good point about the scottish team, strangely enough you have enlightened me, despite watching the match this afternoon, i didn't particularly notice the lack of scottish players, but you are entirely correct. I mean, the top 2 teams in scotland, are miles ahead and the 'real' Scottish teams are left fighting against relegation.
Cheers for the feedback mate, maybe I should of commented more upon the foreigner situation...
Look at Celtic and Rangers, they are the best teams in Scotland, but 90% of the team is made up of foreign players, so no-wonder the Scotland team is terrible.
