In my Task Manager, I have this NewsUpd running.

Now, God knows what it is, it's at the top of the list, above Explorer, and it seems to use a whole lot of my CPU power, almost all of it.

I checked using my Norton System Doctor, and kept it running while monitoring the graph for CP usage. I then closed it (Using Ctrl+Del), and the usage dropped dramatically.

It's blimmin annoying, as every time I start my comp, I have to open the Task Manager and end task it.

I've never actually had it before, and I've not recently installed any new programs.

It only appeared after I had formatted my whole drive, and done a new clean install of Windows 98.

So, what is it?
Any ideas?

Cheers.

Ah, cheers mate.

It also helped me find out what it is.
It's to do with my Creativ Labs sound pack, must be patch checker.
Heh, you're good.

Oh, and simple logistics tell me it's some kind of News Updater.

I have the News feature turned on on my MSN Messenger, yet I've never had this appear on my Task Manager before.
