Giancarlo Fisichella has won the Australian Grand Prix in tricky conditions. It was also Fisichella's first ever victory. The track started off dry but constant drizzle made conditions slippier.
Wilson was the first to slip in the tricky conditions and he didn't last very long as he retired on lap 9 with a water leak. Barrichello's dismal race ended early on lap 10 with an engine problem. Irvine had an equally dismal race and retired with an engine fire on lap 11. Verstappen was driving safely in the points but developed a puncture on lap 41 and couldn't make it back to the pits.
Apart from Wilson, Verstappen, Frentzen, Villeneuve and Heidfeld all had moments out on the track. Ralf Schumacher lost it and forced Da Matta out wide, costing Da Matta a number of places. Coulthard was moving up the inside of Michael Schumacher as Coulthard was trying to recover from poor McLaren strategy, they touched, spinning Coulthard round and he lost numerous places.
It was a nightmare debut for World Champion Panis, as he struggled to 16th. Last year's winner, Webber, drove a gutsy race but just missed out on the points in 9th.
Fisichella turned his front row position into a magnificent win and wasn't in any danger, even though he was as low as 8th after his one and only stop. Raikkonen had a solid drive and finished a creditable 2nd. Firman started 10th but drove a stormer and finished an incredible 3rd on his F1 debut. Trulli and Alonso gave Renault a good points haul with 4th and 5th place respectively. Montoya, Da Matta and R Schumacher all scored points with 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.

The next round is in Malaysia and this was the place last year that Frentzen mounted his Championship challenge. Will he be able to repeat his victory?
*cough*

Can you get on MSN Matt?
You're making a good manager of this thing. ;)
Something along the lines of Scouse T*at.
