I came up with an idea that I mentioned in FoG chat. Basically a site where people can write what they liked about a certain game and what improvements they would like to see included in a similar game or sequel.
So people suggest I just have a go and see if it gets anywhere. So far I can't find any similar sites although the site whatgamerswant.com is under construction but it may be something totally different.
Anyway I have decided I may as well see what happens so I took a free webspace from Bravepages (someone suggested them a while back for something else)
I'm not going to pay for a domain as this idea could fall flat on its face.
What I would like is advice on making a good web page, what to use and what to avoid having.
I know basic stuff and don't mind having a think about more complex stuff in a bid to try make something that looks good and works well.
Also if anyone here is interested at all in helping out or joining in to try make something that could be quite good (or fail miserably :-) ) then please let me know.
any suggestions (other than the just give up now ones....) ??
Cheers if you take the time and effort to give some pointers.
Its got loads of freebies tools muenus cool looking GUI's to base your site on.
We recomend the site to Freeola customers all the time.
I know the basics of HTML. Have never used an editor so to speak, all my previous HTML, Javascript and CSS pages have been written using notepad and a free domain host.
Have a bunch of php links from a while back that I have never got a chance to look at (or real reason for it).
Have started a basic thing so far, on a free domain host with a .tk address just to try get things going, then might be persuaded to get a proper domain although I have no dial up so getting on freeola may be tricky.

Do it mate, you can get a name for less than a tenner for two years, and it does look better, as well as being easier to remember :). Just have it pointing to your Web Site.
For the site itself, really it depends on how serious you are about it. I mean, if you want it to be reeally 'good', then you'll probably want to learn how they are made up from the HTML code itself, rather than just relying on Dreamwaver, FrontPage, etc.
For your idea, I'd recommend looking into PHP as well, as it'll allow your visitors to add their views on games there and then, rather than send you their views and you posting them manualy.
Some of us in here are pretty good with PHP, so if you go away and look into it and get stuck, just come back and ask, and we'll see what we can do.
Good luck with it.
Also, if you're looking help I could make a Nav bar for you :-) Not a flashy one using layers, just a simple 'light-up' kind of one.
And good luck!
Basically. Macromedia would make a site look good, if you're imaginative! And have a basic knowledge of it.
There's so many Macromedia programs around: Fireworks, ColdFusion, Dreamweaver, Studio MX.
I'm betting you've got it already and know all about it. But never mind!
The usual, Frontpage can be good, but I avoid it for some reason.
For images, I've always used Adobe Photoshop, makes them look professional(ish). Also, Paintshop Pro might be good. Although, I avoid that too!!
I'm probably off topic here, but just some examples, eh?
So I'm going to read it again!
