Can you imagine how amazing some of the future games could be? Think of all of Yu Suzuki's recent hits, and then think of all the Nintendo games that Shigeru has designed - the combination of two all time legends' skills can only be a good thing.
Sega may well be ambitious enough, but how on earth are they going to sell 3million more consoles by march? The public want PS2, even though they can't have it, (well actually supply is low) and so the post Christmas DC sales are comparable with the dying, although superb, Nintendo 64 - in the USA at least (Europe tells of a better story). I don't think they have the funds to go and advertise all over the place - a sponsorship of Arsenal is about all they can muster, and yet Nintendo could fail with the Game Cube also! What will people prefer to buy - the Nintendo (which cannot play copied games) or the Sony, a proven market leader (in terms of sales at least), or perhaps a Dreamcast console - something that could well be thwarted out of the market all together?
Probably neither - people will have started to understand that consoles are becoming as out of date as PCs, and so they'll just buy games like monopoly, or bingo and gaming will become a dark, gruesome thing of the past. Well I doubt it, but you never know!
So what do you think? Nintendo and Sega as one? I hope someday that this will be a real possibility, but both companies should retain some pride and keep their names of course - although Sega could reverse theirs and call the company Nintendo Ages, Or not. Nintendo Sega, Sega Nintendo? Perhaps simply Sega Nintendo Enterprises PLC.... If it means that both companies gain some ground on Sony, then I'm all for it - we can't have the greatest game makers in the universe to go bankrupt now do we?
Sega developing for the GBA is the first step, they'll make a fortune if people still want to be playing with a spiky blue hedgehog in 2 years time, but by doing this both companies will rake in the profits, and soon they'll be in the green and be able to advertise more often.
There's going to be one hell of a lot of competitors out there in a years time, so someone's, unfortunately, going to suffer.
(Just think:
Sega's innovation, and great sports games coupled with the superb 4 player shoot 'em ups like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, and then think that maybe this could actually happen...)
In america, the DC rocks! It sold just less than the PS2 in xmas... until the Ps2s sold out and sega dominated the charts with: Shenmue, Jet set radio, and the new black DC+sports games bundle! And with 8 million DC sales worldwide it's ALREADY SUCCEEDED!!! The user base is big enough to support sega for the while and will see them on in the future.
Sony have a rubbish record with the PS". They have shortages in Japan... but how many consoles are being used as games players??? Not many. The current games:console ratio is less than 1:1.... v. bad for sony. Also, the one big hit of the year, The Bouncer, got a poor rating from mags, esp famitsu, and has not sold very well at all.
In europe the DC isn't doing well due to poor advertising. If people could only see shenmue....
But the cheif of Sega Europe has left, and soon to be replaced. (Currently head of Sega Japan has taken control). Hopefully it'll be a step up???

Ruin the market? I don't see Sony in any trouble - if ruining the market in your eyes is Sony not having a 99% market share, then well I'm sorry, but its gonna happen. It's officially unofficial - Sega And Nintendo are joining forces, the Game Boy Advance will out sell sliced bread and Dreamcast will be compatible with Saturn games, which also is being brought back to life - the Saturn will dominate the market, and we'll all be much happier.
Phew...
If Nintendo and Sega joined up, this might mean one less console on the market.
Also, if they ruined Sony's plans, that would be another console gone.
With Sega, Nintendo, Sony and soon Microsoft, there will be a lot of choice, and everyone will be happy. But as Dr Duck said, if they merge, then it could ruin the market.
I'm not just saying this as a Sony fan, I just think that it would be one of the worst things to happen to the gaming world (apart from maybe improved games, thanks to joint effort).
Thanks for reading, Ant.
PS- Hideo Kojima is Sony's man, don't diss. His game's could take on Suzuki's and Shigeru's.

Why that's just preposterous! Sony have a firm grip on the market at present, Sega and Nintendo would never charge as much as could be decribed as dangerous. I don't think that Bill's little venture will be rejected, it may well reject people, but we'll all buy one, and the PS2 will eventually get some top titles that it deserves, if it actually deserves any.
Sega + Nintendo does not = market stomping competition. they'll just have a fairer chance, after all Nintendo only let Sony have the PS idea after they saw what happened to poor old Sega and the Mega CD - yep they watched a total of 3 fly off the shelf! And that was only because of strong winds.
Even if the combined corporation maintains both faces, there won't be real competition, but co-operation between Nintendo and Sega. While this could lead to better games and hardware development by virtue of the combine effort, I feel they would have the potential to claim a too large share of the market. If people reject Bill's expensive little venture, and PS2 dies off through high costs and/or poor titles, or whatever could do it, which is a significant, if not likely, possibility, Nintendo (combined with Sega) could hold the market ransom, charging as much as they could get away with without us finally stoping buying from them, and also having far less motivation to produce such inovative titles we are currently seeing.
