when a page loads how i get it to have a pop up, as in a new page
for instance if in my web address and the page loads, how do i get it so a new page loads with say... ukforums on it?
It would be cool though if the Forum just detected when someone write http:// or www. and changed that whole link into a link :) but het, it'll never happen.
I hear its so people don't get carried away with things ... like putting Images in subject lines (Rob?!?!).
> hope I'm wrong :)
Hehe....well one of us is going to be, may the best wronger be err wrong :)
> Plud if someone posted links to adult sites ... etc and remember this
> Forum is viewed by younger people too.
Hmm....I'm completely aware that this is a forum viewed by younger people and the reason why when people post links to dodgy sites, you see them get banned (unless your name is Mystique) so I think that most people here would respect that and only post links to normal sites like we see day after day.
The staff can do it, I've seen Snuggly do it, plus they can also write using smaller fonts etc I've seen Larrykins use this extensively.
So why can't we?
Dunno :(
Could also do the same for italics, bold, etc.
It's not as easy to make links on this Forum active, as it's not as simple as you'd like for the Forum to know what is and isn't a link. Have you had an E-mail in Hotmail which someone wrote I'm@ the park, or something and Hotmail turned it into an auto-E-mail-link??? Doesn't work as well as you'd like it.
Plud if someone posted links to adult sites ... etc and remember this Forum is viewed by younger people too.
But, it would be a handy little think to have :) Its more of a pain with the character limit really.
It would be easy to code into the Forum, but more of the points above is the reason they don't do it.
> which was what Alex was asking for from the impressiosn I got.
Hmm...I got the impression he was after what Wookiee has just said, oh well if I got it wrong I'm sorry, we'll see when he returns :)
> The link thing you mentioned is good though
Yep, I've spent probably the last two plus years on this forum and I get really annoyed with having to copy and past the links into a seperate page. SR's decision but I think they need to move with the times. I've just recently joined another forum and they've got that which is really handy.
> It's pointless pop-up's I hate.
Couldn't agree more, another site I goto www.moneyextra.co.uk have pop-ups galore, they even have one that appears behind all other open applications so you don't realise it's there till you shut things down.
> If your talking about annoying pop ups that just appear then I would
> say don't do it but links from your site to another....good idea.
Agreed - but you don't need any special code to do that, just TARGET="_blank"
The link thing you mentioned is good though, that sort of new window is fine, in fact better in sme cases. It's pointless pop-up's I hate.
> PopUp's are a pain, and a good reason for someone not to visit your site again.
Yep I'll agree with that, but I think in this case it's a good idea, at least you stay on the main site with access to say ukchatforums on another page.
How many times have you had this forum open and seen a URL posted by someone else....you think I'll have a look at that, but instead of just clicking on the link you've got to copy and paste it, remove the spaces etc in a seperate browser window. *sign* Why can't SR get this sorted, it would make life so much easier?
If your talking about annoying pop ups that just appear then I would say don't do it but links from your site to another....good idea.
Web Site Here.
... or ...
Web Site Here.
Change the options to yes or no accordingly, and the width and height as well.
Just to warn you though, PopUp's are a pain, and a good reason for someone not to visit your site again. Don't use them unless you think it'll be a benefit to your visitors.
