Rumors have been making rounds today saying that Nintendo is and has been in talks for the past few months to buy out competitor Sega. As rediculous as this may sound, the tip off game from a very reliable and credible news source, the New York Times. Because of the reliability of this source, everyone, including gaming media, flocked to them.
Sadly enough, a rumor is a rumor unless it is proven. Amidst all the confusion and fast paced action from one spokesperson to another, Nintendo finally stepped out and denied such talks with Sega. "There is absolutely no chance that Nintendo will buy Sega. The information reported by some overseas media that our company will buy out Sega is all wrong, and we express with 100 percent certainty that our company will not buy out Sega." voiced Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi.
Shortly after, a Sega spokeswoman took her stand for her company. "This report is totally based on speculation and we haven't even been approached by any companies at all, including Nintendo."
While many of you, including myself, think that these rumors are getting a little out of hand, we can't over look one thing. The rumors must be happening for a reason.
Maybe press actually have something but not hard evidence to prove exactly what Nintendo and Sega are up to. While denials of joint games and company buyouts may be official at this time, it doesn't mean nothing is brewing for a later event. (lets hope)
Rumours are spreading fast that Sonic will appear on the GBA, and I will keep my fingers crossed.
