Okay fine they're just going into administration but it's heading down that route.

Actually, Tony could buy it and use it as a high street front for advertising Freeola ISP, plus he could have internet booths in each store which only allowed you to surf these forums :)

Mind you, GAD prizes might then be changed to pick and mix sweets...

Yes, Woolies has been a landmark in many a town, the high street wouldn't be the same without it.

I've just collected all those little Lego sets from The Mirror promotion in Woolies and the staff were very helpful in saving some for us during half term.

It's obvious that the store suffered from no real specialism, WHSmiths seems to have done something similar in the 90's but has now scaled back to concentrate on magazines, stationary and books again, though the larger stores still stock toys, DVDs and games. Thing is, I'd really miss Woolworth if it wasn't there and hope someone buys it out and turns the company around.

They were talking at one point of a buyout for £1, which would mean the debts wouldn't seem so bad for anyone willing to make a long term investment.

i suppose they had a point about the reasonswhy the 2 companies struggled. Woolworths had no specific USP and sold everything so a jack of all trades was a master of none.

MFI were just rubbish.

still the woolworths in my town has been there since i was born, so a good 22 years at least. Will probably be a defining change on the town landscape. Oh well.

Glad about 2Entertain not being affected (they're owned by Woolies parent company) as they've been doing such a good job producing the Doctor Who DVDs.
