Is it good or bad. Would I be better off with a dedicated DVD player? I keep hearing rumours that it is not all that. Can anyone confirm.

It only cost me 100 quid. A dedicated one maybe has more features and other stuff, as well as the machine not getting hot after a game.
I'd agree. The DVD playback of the PS2 is excellent. I can't possibly complain - especially as, being a poor student, I don't have a DVD player is a real bonus. I have seen movies played on dedicated DVD players and I can't tell the difference. I'm sure that the quality of a £700 DVD player would be better - But we haven't payed £700 have we?

i have ps2 and although i didn't buy it for dvd playback i found playback quite good, compared to my stand alone sony dvd player.ps2 is an ideal for introducing yourself to the world of dvd, with the added bonus of potentially great gaming.

I am also very impressed with the quality of the PS2 DVD player. I cant judge whether or not it compares to stand alone players but from what I gather there isnt much difference. I have heard loads of people saying that they have problems with theirs but I have yet to encounter any such trouble. I have over ten DVD movies now and every one of them plays superbley through PS2 and I have no complaints about it whatsoever. I am more than happy!!!
i dont or never have owned a dedicated dvd player so i cant judge. but i am very happy with the quality.and i have had no technical probs like some have mentioned like skipping and voice lag. if you dont own a dedicated player i think this fits the bill quite nice . plus it does and will do a whole lot more
