Quick quiz...

Moving into a shared house in a couple of weeks, and everyone there will have access to my pc.

Looking for a program (freeware) that puts a password on a directory, which covers all files and folders within by this one password.

Anyone have something like this?

You can use the windows disc to convert the filesystem to NTFS. This will allow you to set permissions on your directories.

Set up 2 user accounts, one for you one for them. Simple. What problems do you have with XP? I find XP the best Windows released..

It's XP that I have, though I'm really rempted to change it to 2000 pro, as XP is such a pain in the backside.

The hide dirs in XP works fine, though they are just hidden, and once they are found there is no other protection.

I've found loads of programs on shareware to do this, at about $20, but a free one would be nice....

Alternatively, i could set up a guest login for the people in the house and then put a password on the administrators login which would work, but I can't remember if this was an option in 2000pro. Was it?

That's not the trouble, they have plenty of their own. It's my websites - it wouldn't be the first time they've played a joke on me and uploaded 'comedy' titlebars and stuff..

and notforgetting I have a wife..... and a digital camera....

Alternatively, don't share your PC with everyone, tell them to go and get thier own!
