One shot king is Coulthard as Panis struggles
David Coulthard has taken pole position for the second time in his career in the first ever one shot qualifying session and it was only McLaren's third ever pole position. The weather was cloudy with the odd sprinkling of rain but it only affected the times by about a tenth of a second.
Coulthard pipped Fisichella to pole but the session was very close, with all the drivers within half a second of each other. It was a bad start to the season for defending champion, Panis, who could only manage 21st for his new team, Toyota.
It was a good day for rookies Verstappen and Alonso as they both managed to make a top 6 place in their first qualifying session.
