This is a new proposal, if you're caught breaking the speed limit by over 20mph you'll get 6 points on your license. Which means get caught a second time within three years and you'll be banned automatically from driving and you won't be allowed to even watch Top Gear.

So is this a good idea? Will it get people to slow down? If not what can be done to help cut the number of deaths on the road? Remember we're still a long way from an I, Robot or Demolition Man world where cars drive themselves.

I think it's definitely deserved, particularly if you don't learn from the first time you're caught. There's no excuse to be over the limit by 20mph+

It sounds harsh when you hear it but people who drive 20mph over the limit constantly probably deserve the extra points. Granted I got done doing 43 in a 30 but that was because I wasn't paying attention (and the copper screwed me), if you were constantly doing 20mph over the limit (and get caught) it would take a conscious decision to do it and don't deserve to be on the road.

Sounds fair enough if it's over 20mph.

I've been caught once for doing 5mph more, I'm ashamed to say, but 20mph over the limit is pretty hard to do by accident.
