Contenders of conflict: Ant and Darkness_2K.
Conflict starts......NOW.
Is the DVD on the PS2 any good??? I haven't had time to play one yet.
Sony, and some PS2 owners say the DVD is better than all normal DVD players worth sub £300.
Darkness_2K, and other people, say the DVD is rubbish, and plays green movies.
What do we all think??
Thanks for reading, Ant.
DARKNESS_2K IS AN IDIOT!!! AHHHHHH!!!!
Discussion on the conflict from earlier on:
Ant: The DVD is fine.
Dark: No it's not, it's crap.
Ant: According to most people, it's fine.
Dark: Crap.
Ant: It's better than all DVD players costing less than £300.
Dark: No, it's about as good as a £60 one.
Ant: How do you know??
Dark: I saw it at the SR open day!!
Ant: No, you didn't.
Dark: Yes I did, I went!!
Ant: No you didn't.
Dark: Yes I did.
Ant: Didn't.
Dark: Did.

Dark: I DID YOU IDIOT!!!
Ant:...............DIDN'T!!!
etc etc and so on.

I think there is a lot of confusion over the leads, with many people unsure of what constitutes a true RGB SCART cable, and this is causing many people to think that they're getting an RGB picture, when in fact they're not.
The lead that comes with PS2 is not a SCART lead, it's a composite lead. Plugging it into the SCART adapter block (also supplied with PS2) does not make it an RGB SCART lead. The SCART adapter only uses 10 of the 20 pins available; a true RGB SCART will have all 20 pins present and connected.
pb knows what he's talking about.
Playing a £300 Philips DVD player side by side with the PS2's (at a mate's house) there isn't much difference when you're sat on a chair about 1.5 metres away (from a 28" TV) and with a good quality sound set up it sounds the business as well. The main point though, is that not only can the PS2 play DVDs, but it can play games as well (not a lot of people seem to know this!) and until the xbox comes out there is nothing that will compare to this functionality.
Anyway, as far as buying a PS2, I think most people make up their minds by the games they see on the system. If you like Timesplitters and the soon released Metal Gear Solid game then you'll probably want the PS2 no matter what the DVD playback is like, even though to me it is pretty good anyway.
