You sit there, by the door, eyes fixated upon the letterbox, praying. Praying that your most anticipated game of all time will drop through today, and you'll be treated to wave upon wave of amazement, excitement and overall happiness. This certain game is like no other. It makes you stay up until 3:00 am, plodding on, reaching that next goal. You've had to bring the buckets in from the garage to collect all the drool that is dripping from your mouth. You shut everything else off in your life; friends, school, family, everything you live for is channeled into this game. Ah, there we go, finished. Onto the next one, then!

But that's exactly the problem. You have gamers in general. To the majority, all gamers are one breed. They wake up, play games, go to bed. No, I will not accept this general tag. I'm not going to be herded into the group that is "Gamer". Because I am special, an individual, who chooses what he will/will not do. I am, as I like to be known, a true gamer.

Now, you'll all have mixed opinions on this. Just what is a true gamer? How do you define that statement? Look at some examples.

The Obsessed:

Social life is out of the question. Weekends are devoted entirely to playing video games. Arthritis will come at an early age, glasses will be worn long before other people, yet they "r00l" at Unreal Tournament. These people are not true gamers. Sure, they are dedicated, and any money they earn is poured into video games, but it's not what being a gamer is all about.

So what is it all about then? What makes you a Gamer? Take a look at yourself. Can you honestly say you are true gamer? Do you not only spend a lot of time with video games, but also go out and socialise? Do you walk the dog, read a book, play an instrument? *That* is what being a Gamer is all about. You have control over what you do. You choose what games you play, what film you're going to see, when you're going to write the next chapter of your book. Show the general public that you're not a fool. You don't take Nintendo through a drip. You don't sit in you room all weekend. But that doesn't mean it’s wrong.

Things should be in balance. For every action there is a reaction. Stay up late, feel tired. Punch the wall, it'll hurt. You have to try and sort things out. Sure, staying up until the early hours of the morning is fine, as long as it's not every weekend.

The Idiot:

Now, this is what really makes me mad, and I cannot stress this enough. People who go and buy a Playstation 2 (For example) just because their friend's say that GTA VC is "well cool" are idiots. Nutters. Fools. Imbeciles. They're not real Gamers. The word sheep comes to mind. Following the herd because they're too weak to make their own decisions, their own choices in life. Yet, they're still bundled with "Gamer" purely because they own a console. And they are different to me.

But what does that make me? Happy. I'm happy because I'm in control of my life. I'm not Mr. Popular, heck, I'm probably one of the least popular blokes in my year, but it doesn't phase me at all. I don't want to be "Cool", following groups of people, doing what other people think Is right. I'm my own person, and if that makes me unpopular, then so be it.

So in the end, what I'm getting at is, take a reality check. See if you balance your life well. *That's* the road to happiness. And if you are True gamer, feel happy, because you're on the right track.

Thanks for reading

And I'll leave you with a question. The above is my opinion of a True gamer. You most probably have different views. So what makes a True Gamer, then?

I thought it suited Life more- as it was really about life and such. But it could go Prime too, I guess.

Thanks for the replies.

Hang on though, isn't this in the wrong forum? Oh well.

Individuals don't do what other people don't do, they do what they want.

Well, I agree with you completely. You completely deserve to win. Also, I dont care how unpopular you are, you are damn popular in my books. I doubt the majority of "gamers" (the obsessed ones) can even spell half the words you have used. Nice one! You've shut all those 'cool' people up well. Have fun with your prize.

What the? Thanks very much SR! As Gerrid said, I really did not expect this at all. I assumed it was crap because no one replied to it, apart from VenomByte.

Cheers. :D

I really don't think Shipseh expected to win for this, judging by the way he talked about it.
It is great though.

Essentially, that's what I meant. I was stressing how they should think for themselves more often, than be guided by some other person/people.

Indeed, it is. Maybe it's because we live in denial. We try and deny accusations of being catagorised into a certain group, when really, they may be right.

I'd tend to classify 'The Idiots' as 'The Ignorant' or 'The Uninformed', but it all comes to the same thing.

My only problem at the moment is that I own no games which I want to play. That includes over 60 titles on my PC alone... all exhausted. I can think of no more challenges to set myself, or at least none that I'll have the motivation to complete. I've seen it all, done it all, and I need something new.

Here's another thought... has anyone else realised how much easier it is to categorise other people than it is to categorise yourself?

I wonder why.
