For years and years men have spent hours wasting their life away trying to explain the offside rule to their girlfriends or to their mates who are a thickets. It's quite simple; When the ball is played forward by the attacking team over the halfway line there has to be two players (One of these is always the goalkeeper unless it's Barthez!!) from the opposing team (who are defending) between the goal and the attacking player who is about to have the ball passed to him. If we look at it in diagram form:

Key:
X = Attacking player
D = Defending Player
GK = Goalkeeper
o = The ball

Offside:

| _____
| X..o X |
( | ) D | GK
| |_____
|

Onside:

| _____
| X..o X |
( | ) D | GK
| |_____
|

See, it's simple to explain....well be that as it may (god thats what my Dad says....anyway), it takes a long time to talk some reprobate through it, therefore why don't they just get rid of it? Todays footballers get overpaid for running about a little bit, so why don't we make them run about a whole lot more. Without the offside rule the defenders will have to work harder to man mark attacking players, which when they forget to do this will undoubtedly lead to more goals! It would also abolish the need for Linesmen, sorry Assistants TO the Referee (whats that all about as well!), meaning your team would never get any crappy decisions as it is physically impossible to look where the ball was played AND see if there is a player offside, which the LINESMEN think they're able to do.

Call it wacky but if footballers really think they are THAT good, it'd be interesting to put them to the test. Who knows if someone from FIFA decided to read this and think in their tiny head....ummm thats a good idea, and then scheduling it in to be a new rule then maybe England could win a game internationally! If we can't win, then change a rule so that we do win!
